South Lakes Breaks 9 Minutes & State Record

The writing was on the wall a year ago, South Lakes was going to be great this year in the 4x800m relay. Being great on paper and putting it all together on the track are different things though. The quartet of Aya Ryan, Catalina Simon, Caroline Elliott, and Bella Harsanyi put together a record performance at the Class 6 State meet on Monday.

They split 2:17, 2:14, 2:09, and 2:13 to become the first team in Virginia history to break the nine-minute barrier. Their final time of 8:55.79 broke the previous state record by seven seconds. Their time is so fast it would rank third all-time on the outdoor list.

South Lakes will have some big meets ahead of them but first they will have day two of states with these stars running in some individual events as well.
