There could be at least 4 potential state champion squads in different classifications coming out of this weekend's William & Mary Invitational for the boys between Deep Run in 5A, Lafayette in 3A, Maggie Walker in 2A, and Veritas School in the private schools. Deep Run is hoping to get Grayson Reid back to racing this weekend after an injury plagued junior season, but one of the highlights was at last year's William & Mary Invite when he pulled off an upset victory in 15:59. Reid could very well open as the team's #4 runner with a talented group of teammates in Matthew Novak, Alex Varon, and Brandon Von Kannewurf. Virtual meet preview for this Saturday's William & Mary Invitational at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg.
Results now posted from the William & Mary Invitational! Molly Breidenbaugh (18:49) of Trinity and Alex Fleckestein (16:01) of Maggie Walker won the varsity A race individual titles. One of the top ranked 5A squads in the Deep Run boys held off their former Colonial District rivals and the new Group 2A favorites Maggie Walker for the boys' team title, while the Maggie Walker girls edged out River Hill High School of Maryland by 3 points.
Trinity Episcopal School senior Molly Breidenbaugh is the defending Virginia Independent Schools Division 1 state champion in cross country as well as a reigning 3200 champion on the track, which she ended up lowering her time down to 10:46 in the spring. After a successful first year and smooth transition to Trinity Episcopal School following spending her first two years at Hanover High School in Mechanicsville, Breidenbaugh has her sights set on even bigger goals this year including hopefully a trip to San Diego in December for the Foot Locker Nationals if she can be one of the top 10 finisher at the South Regional qualifier in Charlotte on Thanksgiving weekend.
