Southeastern cross country: It\'s all Western Branch Oct 25, 2007

Photo by Andy Paisley Western Branch made it a complete sweep of the Southeastern District cross country meet at Bells Mill Park Wednesday. The Bruins took both the boys and girls individual titles, as well as both team titles. Callen Powers won the girls race, while Blake Theroux garnered the boys title. Both runners trailed at the one-mile mark, then took the lead two miles in and held it the rest of the way. Powers, a senior, picked up her first district cross country title in 18:54.15, besting freshman teammate Natalie Wynn. Wynn finished just six seconds back, at 19:00.75. “It feels pretty good to win, but I was more excited about the team championship,” Powers said. “I was definitely running for my team, for my girls.”Read full story...

 The Southeastern District Meet could be a Western Branch show with the potential of Bruins coach Ryan Carroll to have both individual and team champions in the boys and girls races. The Western Branch girls have looked sharp this fall as a team that could possibly represent the Eastern Region well beyond the regional meet onto Great Meadow.
