There have technically been a couple meets this season already but we consider this weekend, the first big weekend, as the true opening weekend for VA's XC season.
Coverage
Mostly Blacksburg Girls Varsity Red Race.
The 2016 XC season has started off moderately with a few big stories here and there. This is all going to change though next weekend 9/10 as nearly the entire state laces up their spikes and takes to many XC courses. The action this weekend will include Newport News, Knights Crossing, Monroe Parker, Judges Classic, Becky Selfe, FUMA, and Pole Green XC Classic. Needless to say it is going to be a big one.
In the biggest meet of the season thus far and by far the largest of September we will get to see not only the strong teams of VA but NC's best as well.

Here are the top 500 finishers for 5K from this past weekend. Nearly every meet in the state shortened or cancelled their races because of the heat. Most of these courses were also not of the "fast" variety.
This past weekend produced a 90% change in the top 100 leaderboard at the top. Check out the new leaders and movers.
There is only one thing that is equally crazy and awesome than Libby Davidson having a little sister that could be just as fast and that is having a little sister that is just as fast with the name Jette. If she improves like Libby did then Usain Bolt is going to have a new competitor for the best running name.
It is very hard, nearly impossible, to make the step from being good to being a star. This season with her first race, Noel Palmer showed us she is making that step this XC season and not looking back.
