The 2013 All-MileStat.com XC Boys Cross Country Team has been announced with 21 runners total being selected among the first, second, and third teams. Special recognition and honors also given to runner of the year, coach of the year, freshmen of the year, and most improved runner of the year.

At Panorama Farms on Saturday, Albemarle senior Ryan Thomas will get one of his last opportunities to race on his home course as his team welcomes 35 schools to the grassy rolling hills of Panorama for the Albemarle Invitational. The 2013 Group AAA state indoor 1000 meter champion Thomas is coming off his best race of the season with a personal best 5K clocking of 15:25 at Great American. He is the top returnee from last year's Albemarle Invitational when he finished 4th with a time of 16:02.

Paul Adam of Lee-Davis and Jason Menzies of Lafayette opened up with sub 16 minute 5K performances in their victories at the Great Meadow Invitational and Newport News Invitational respectively. A list of the top 50 fastest boys cross country times in Virginia over all the different distances (5K, 3 mile, and 2 mile) contested so far in this young 2013 season. 

Pre-season virtual meet cross country previews for each conference (#9-16) among the boys in the new Group 5A classification based on season best 5K performances last fall in the database from the returning runners on each team.

Performance list for the 2013 VHSL Group AAA State Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held Friday, May 31st & Saturday, June 1st at Todd Stadium in Newport News, Virginia.

Oscar Smith senior Michael Cherry became the fourth fastest ever in US high school history at 500 meters indoors and the new Virginia high school state record holder in the event after running an incredible time of 1:02.61 at the Southeastern District Championships on Tuesday in Hampton at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.  None have ran faster than Cherry before on a flat track as Cherry cruised through 200 meters in 23 seconds and 300 meters in 36 seconds and stayed even pace through 400 meters at 49 seconds after creating some separation from Western Branch's Corey Jones, who ended up running a big PR for second place in 1:05.06. The Florida State University signee Cherry powered home off the final curve keeping the 13 second per 100 meter pace for his historic final time and lowering his previous US #1 time by another second.

At the 2012 Eastern Region Meet, 1-2 individual finishes were enjoyed by the Ocean Lakes girls with Nicole Park and Olivia Bethune as well as the Kellam boys with Billy Boros and David Gregory. The Hickory boys kept Ocean Lakes from sweeping the team titles for a third year in a row in the final Eastern Region Cross Country Championships.

The final Eastern Region Cross Country Championships will be held Thursday, November 1st at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake. It has been tough for any Eastern Region team over recent years to beat any cross country squad produced by coach Mike Nestor at Ocean Lakes. The Ocean Lakes cross country program will attempt to make it a sweep of the team titles for the third consecutive year.

   Ocean Lakes girls have one of the best duos in the state between rising juniors Nicole Park and Olivia Bethune. Park is the returning Group AAA state cross country runner-up, while Bethune is the defending Eastern Region cross country champion. The top pre-season ranked boys' runner from the Eastern Region is Western Branch's Nick Richardson.

Top 50 boys and girls 5K times in Virginia as of September 13th. The Knights Crossing Invitational and Newport News Invitational certainly added quite a few times to this list after quality fields raced on their flat 5K layouts this past Saturday.
