THE PLAINS, VA - Many would agree that there was no doubt that Bobby Lockhart was going to
win the Octoberfest Invitational and most likely further improve on his course and meet record
of 14:57. He lived up to his billing today by clocking a 14:42 5K as he won the race by well over
a minute. It is simply amazing he was able to improve on his time by 15 seconds even with the bad
weather conditions. His time is currently the fastest time produced by any high schooler thus
far this cross country season. The Woodbridge boys, ranked 6th in the state, were also heavily favored to win and won convincingly with
68 points. That score point them well ahead of other state ranked squads such as the #10 ranked Westfield squad (2nd, 114
pts) and the #9 ranked James Wood squad (3rd, 147 pts).

What wasn't expected by many was the upset of Kristyn Shiring by C.D. Hylton's North Stafford.
Having beaten Hess, numerous times already this season, it was expected for Shiring to continue
this continuation of dominance. However, at Great Meadows, this turned out to be not the case. Throughout out the most entire race, Hess and Shiring kept switching leads, but Hess put on a strong final kick to win in the 2nd fastest 5K time in the state this season with her 18:14. Shiring didn't run too shabby of
a race herself. Although losing the race to Hess, she clocked a personal best 5K time of 18:29.
Pre-race favorites Blacksburg turned out to finish 6th, but ran without a few of their runners,
including #1 runner Amanda Reinholtz. Though the missing runners could have possibly not made
a difference as the Loudoun Valley girls looked strong in their victory with Fanning sisters, Jessica
(3rd, 18:37) and Tasmin (7th, 19:24) leading the way for the squad.

In the boys 'B' race, Ryan Foster's winning time of 16:08, helped key the win for Sherando. They finished well ahead of Oakton "B" squad with 45 points.

The Wesfield girls placed 4 of their runners in the top 12 to help them win
the girls 'B' race. Forest Park's Beth Fahey outperformed Stone Bridge's Chelsea Henderson to win the race in 19:18

Elite Performances: 33 boys, 55 girls
