2019 VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE STATE CROSS-COUNTRY MEET
PLACE: Green Hill Park, Roanoke, VA

2019 Course Map
RULES AND SCORING: Cross Country section of the National Federation Edition of the Track and Field Rule Book (2017-2018)
** Coaches will not be permitted in the finish line area or chip return area.**
NO SPECTATORS ALLOWED ON THE COURSE, MOST OF THE COURSE IS VISIBLE FROM VIEWING AREA, BUT BINOCULARS ARE HELPFUL. Violation of this rule will prompt disqualification of a school's participants. Coaches shall inform their athletes to turn in their chips before exiting the finish line area.
CHIP TIMING: We will be using Snap Timing
for chip timing and scoring the meet. Finish Lynx Cameras will be set up at the finish line. There will also be a finish line judge to call close finishes.
UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT: Participants are required to wear a school-issued uniform top and shorts. Participants must attach their bib number to the front of their uniform. The VHSL will provide bib numbers for each participant. Running shoes or spikes must be worn during the competition. Participants may wear one wristwatch. No Hats or bandannas. Sweat bands are permitted.
ENTRY: Regional Directors must e-mail the Region Directors report (typed) to the VHSL, Tommy Maguire. The meet director should collect state entry forms from each school that qualifies or has individuals that qualify for the state meet.

TEAM PACKETS: Available the day of the meet only. Packets may be picked up at the pavilion. Packets will include a course map, bib number, race chips to be attached to both shoes, a time schedule, and coach's meeting agenda.
EXPENSES: All expenses for travel, meals, and lodging must be provided by the competing school.
LODGING: Each coach is responsible for making his own hotel reservations.
TENTS: Must be erected in the grass along the new paved road between the 2 yellow gates look for the signs. No tents are allowed in the infield or near the course.
DRESSING AREA: There will be no dressing area provided. Portable restrooms will be provided.
AWARDS: Team and individual awards will be presented at the the stage in the in-field behind the finish line. Athletes and coaches should listen for a P.A. announcement as to the exact time awards will be presented.
SCHOOL AND INDIVIDUAL QUALIFYING LIMITS: Top 3 teams per region and top 5 individuals based upon Region qualifying standards
STATE CROSS-COUNTRY T-SHIRTS & SWEATSHIRTS: T-Shirts (crew neck, short, & long sleeve) and sweatshirts will be available in a variety of styles. Will be on sale starting on Friday, November 15, 2019.
Directions to Green Hill Park:
From I-81(N or S): Take Exit 137 (Salem). Take a right at the bottom of the exit ramp. Follow to 1st traffic light. Go right onto Route 460. Go to the 3rd traffic light and take a left onto Diuguids Lane. Cross the railroad tracks and Green Hill Park will be on your right. Please follow signs to 2nd entrance down access road.
CONCESSIONS: Will be available beginning on Saturday morning.
CAR AND BUS PARKING: (enter through the 2nd entrance to the park.) Roanoke County Police Officers and Roanoke County Parks employees will be there to direct traffic.

VHSL Cross Country Regional Directors and Coaches
I. REGIONAL DIRECTOR --
a) Email Region Directors Form (typed) to Tommy Maguire (tmaguire@rcps.us) by 9pm on Friday, November 8, 2019. Region Meets on Saturday must have their region directors report submitted by 9:00pm on Saturday , November 9, 2019.
b) If you cannot email the region directors report form, then FAX the State entries to Tommy Maguire (540-772-2107)
c.)Entries are due by coaches on Milestat by 9pm, Friday, November 8, 2019
II. COACHES:
All Coaches are required to enter their state qualifying athletes and/or teams through milestat.com. All entries must be done by 9pm on Friday, November 8th. NO Password Required!!!!

a) Parking: Please refer to the Coaches Information Sheet for instructions. Also please inform your parents that the individuals helping with parking are volunteers, and treat them with some respect.
b) Tents:Must be erected in the grass along the new paved road between the 2 yellow gates look for the signs. No tents are allowed in the infield or near the course.
c) Course availability -- noon to 5:00 pm Friday, November 15th. In the case of severe weather the course may be closed and will remain closed until race day.
d) Please remind athletes to get through the finish line as quickly as possible.
e) Competitors Numbers/Chip - Please make sure athletes have the correct competitors number on at the
start of the race and correct chips. The Chip number will correspond with the bib number. $25.00 per
lost chip. All chips must be returned the day of the championship. If not returned the day of the meet
then coaches are responsible for payment
f) Results will be available for your race only. A complete set of results for all divisions will be
available on www.milestat.com and snaptiming.com
g) Coaches meeting -- see time schedule
h) Packets available -- Saturday only.
