  De'Nisha Smith of Cosby ran a state leading time of 44.93 in the 300 meter hurdles on Wednesday in a tri meet at Midlothian with her teammate Elisa Hendriksen running a four second PR for runner-up and MileSplit US national elite time of 46.12. It was an impressive return to top form for Smith (43.61 PR last year) was setback by injury in the last half of the indoor season.

Patrick Henry hurdler Travis Phillips should have a lot of momentum building into this outdoor season after knocking off the Eastern Region's best for the Group AAA state indoor 55 meter hurdles title with a 7.42 PR clocking last month. The East Carolina University recruit Phillips was knocking on the door with a sub 14 second performance in the 110 meter hurdles last spring and will be one of the state's top contender in that event this upcoming outdoor season.

Speedy sophomore sprint star Marcus Taylor of Highland Springs was able to runaway from a finals field in the 55 meter dash at Friday's Southeastern Invitational which included many of the state's fastest so far this season in Kecoughtan freshmen Jacion Fugate (6.54) and Grassfield junior Isaiah Harper with the nation's fastest time in a 6.43 clocking.

MileStat.com is on-site covering the first indoor track meet of the season at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia with the Peninsula District Ice Breaker.

The first annual Clover Hill Outdoor Track & Field Invitational will feature over 500 athletes from 16 schools comprising of mainly Central Region squads from all four districts as well as Commonwealth District teams Colonial Forge and Riverbend. With teams able to enter as many as 6 runners in the distance races, 5 athletes in the sprints and hurdles, 4 competitors in the field events, and 2 relays per event, coaches are able to get a good early season look at virtually their entire roster. Field events start at 9:00 AM and the racing on the track begins shortly thereafter at 9:30 AM with an estimated finish time before 4:30 PM.
