The championship season meet auto standards for upcoming 2013-2014 indoor track & field season have been released on November 20th by the VHSL and are based on the average of the 8th best season performance over the last 6 years from the schools assigned to each Conference, Region, and State classification. This is how the State Meet standards were determined when we first began using qualifying standards. The data was obtained from the MileStat.com database.
A list of Group 5A state indoor automatic qualifiers as of December 18th. Clover Hill senior Josh Willard is now already qualified in two individual events after running a time of 1:06.62 in the 500 meter dash two weekends ago at St. Christopher's and then last week posting an over two second PR in the 1000 meter run in the stacked fast section of the race at the CNU Winter Frolic with a US #7 time of 2:32.25. Willard had also ran an impressive 1:56 split in the 4x800 meter relay the night before.
A list of Group 5A state indoor automatic qualifiers as of December 31st. Atlee junior Bryce Simpson leads all Group 5A pole vaulters with a season best clearance of 13'6". Simpson has already competed in 5 indoor meets before the New Year and won all 5 pole vault competitions.
Virtual meet indoor track & field rankings for each of the two regions for the VHSL Group 5A classification. Deep Run junior Matthew Novak has already got two state qualifiers out of the way in the 1000 from his 2:30 performance at CNU Winter Frolic and in the 3200 from the Douglas Freeman Polar Bear Meet on December 18th with a 9:27 time. Last weekend at the Arthur Ashe Center, Novak got a workout in by winning the 1600 (4:35) and 1000 (2:46) as well as working on his speed in the 300 (6th, 41.39).
All five of the 2014 VHSL State Indoor Track & Field Championship meets will be using the MileStat.com online registration system for coaches to submit their final state meet entries.
Performance list for the 2014 VHSL Group 5A State Indoor Championships to be held Thursday thru Saturday, February 27th thru March 1st at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Virginia.
When the VHSL announced plans for a new classification system last year, we knew major changes were in store. Virginia high school athletes will be crisscrossing the state this week as they head to their respective championship meets. Three different sites will host the finest athletes in the state as they look to write a brand new chapter in the record books.

Sean Leyh of MileStat.com has already done that as he tallies up the state meet entries to project the top 10 or 12 teams heading into each state championship meet at Boo Williams this weekend.
Coverage central for all 5 VHSL State Indoor Track & Field Championship meets to be contested over the week. MileStat.com will have on-site coverage at all of the state meets contested at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton and Liberty University's Tolsma Track Center in Lynchburg.
Taking the performance list and scoring it as a meet, MileStat.com can generate a fairly accurate team score projection for the teams slated to compete at the Group 5A State Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
The top three teams on the boy’s side in 5A have seen a lot of each other this postseason. Competition has been fierce thus far between the squads as mere points have separated all three at the Conference 11 and 5A South region meets.
