The state\'s top harriers gathered in Great Meadows for one exciting state meet in the midst of chilling rain, temperatures in the 40\'s and muddy and slippery course conditions. While the weather broke a few top individuals and teams, there were many others that rose to the occassion and stepped it up on championship Saturday.

First interview of the "Reliving State Championship Glory" series this week with MileStat.com's Brandon Miles catching up with past state champions in Virginia as they recall their memorable days at the VHSL State Cross Country Championships. First interview is with 2002 Group AAA state champion Jennifer Boyd of Hickory. In the first state cross country meet for girls back in 1979, Kempsville's Kendall Tata won the AAA race out of the Eastern Region. It took 23 years until the next state champion came out of the region with Boyd's 18:54 victory on a rainy, cold, and sloppy day at Great Meadow on Saturday, November 16th, 2002.
