On Sunday evening at 5P until 6:15 PM within University of Richmond's Ukrop Auditorium, a newly formly organized called UR - Save Our Sports will be hosting a public meeting and forum to hear from those who formulated the current plan to drop men's track & field and soccer and add men's lacrosse as well as those who oppose the plan and present to show their support. It would be a huge boost for the efforts if many Virginia high school coaches, athletes, and parents can attend this forum to show their support for the coach Steve Taylor and the University of Richmond men's track athletes.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Richmond women\'s cross country team finished second out of 14 teams and the men\'s team took fourth out of 13 teams at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday at Schenley Park. Richmond earned both of the meet\'s Outstanding Rookie Awards with freshman Amy Van Alstine taking fourth in the women\'s race and freshman Andrew Benford (Ravenswood, WV) taking eighth to lead all rookies in the men\'s race.

Young Posts NCAA Qualifying Mark At Iowa State Last-Chance Meet UR Press Release Mar 4, 2006

Freshman Jessica Young and senior John Ciccarelli both had strong performances at the Iowa State Last-Chance Meet on Saturday, including Young smashing her own school record in the 400-meter dash with an NCAA Championship qualifying time. Young placed third in her heat and fifth overall against some of the top 400-meter runners in the nation. Her time of 54.19 seconds smashed her own school record and qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Young will find out on Tuesday if her mark is good enough to place her in the 17 qualifiers for the NCAA Championships to be held next weekend at the University of Arkansas.

University of Richmond sophomore Ryan Jobes died on Tuesday in a car accident in Pennsylvania. Jobes was a graduate of Williamstown High School in West Virginia where he won several state titles and at U of R, he posted a time of 1:55 in the 800 as a freshmen. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, coaches, and fellow athletes.

The University of Richmond track and field team will host the First Annual Fred Hardy Invitational Friday-Saturday, March 25-26, at the Fred Hardy Track and Field Facility at First Market Stadium on the Richmond campus. The Spiders, who will compete as the event hosts, will welcome 10 teams to the event including Pittsburgh, Virginia, VCU, William & Mary, James Madison, Concord, George Washington, Shippensburg and West Chester. The field will also include several unattached athletes, most notably Samuel Okantey who competed in the triple jump at the 2000 Olympiad in Sydney, Australia.
