Group 5A classification virtual meet cross country rankings based on 5K season best performances in the database as of October 7th. In a race which many of the Virginia teams underpeformed or were overwhelmed by the stiff regional and national level competition in the Race of Champions at Great American, Brady Guertin and the Stone Bridge boys excelled as the VA #17 ranked squad finished ahead of VA #4 Patriot, VA #7 Midlothian, and VA #13 Albemarle in the final team team standings. Guertin was the team's top finisher with a 5K PR time of 15:50 in 38th place, while teammates Andrew Matson (16:28), Jackson Morton (16:31), Tyler Brodie (16:51), and Joe Valle (17:06) rounded out their scoring five. Stone Bridge went into this past weekend ranked #3 in Group 5A, but after beating #2 ranked Albemarle at Great American and Deep Run unable to run at full strength since the William & Mary Invite, Stone Bridge is making a strong case for the top ranking in the classification.
The Stone Bridge boys have been the top performer team so far this season in the 5A classification including a recent win at the Loudoun County Championships against 5A top 10 ranked squads Broad Run and Potomac Falls. Brady Guertin led the Stone Bridge boys to the team title at the Loudoun County Championships on Wednesday in Purcellville as he pulled away from rising sophomore star Andrew Hunter of Loudoun Valley in the final half mile for a winning time around 16 minutes flat. The Lake Braddock girls did not qualify for the state meet last year, but as far as regional dominance through the years, no team can compare to the Bruins. Since the regional team championship and state qualifying process was instituted on the girls side beginning in 1978, Lake Braddock has qualified for the state meet an astounding 30 of the 34 years it has been in existence.
